Cow mattresses and rubber flooring: choosing Bioret Agri for cubicles, alleys and feeding areas

A good barn floor is not one “soft mat” for every task. Cubicles need stable, dry lying support; alleys need grip, drainage and scraper compatibility; the feed front needs safe animal positioning. This guide maps the Bioret Agri range by barn zone and explains what data a sound project requires.

Why concrete cannot be judged by strength alone

Concrete is a practical structural base, but its hardness and surface condition influence movement and resting choices. A long-term comparison of rubber and concrete floors in heifers found differences in locomotion and hoof/leg treatments. Other studies report more modest or mixed effects: flooring cannot correct poor cubicle geometry, moisture, inadequate hoof trimming or weak ventilation.

The defensible conclusion is that suitable flooring can support confident movement and resting comfort, while outcomes still depend on whole-farm management. A floor change alone cannot guarantee more milk or eliminate lameness.

Choose the zone before the model

A cubicle mattress must support the body, remain stable during lying and rising, and work with bedding, the brisket barrier and slope. In alleys, grip, liquid removal and manure-system compatibility dominate. Slatted-floor openings must remain functional. At the feed front, scraper movement, frontage width and concrete condition matter.

Before selection, LabLog requests the farm plan, cubicle and alley dimensions, base photos, slat spacing, scraper model, animal groups and cleaning routine. This prevents a good product from being used in the wrong zone.

Magellan, Delta Diam, Panama and Jovéa alley floors

Magellan 25 is a 25 mm draining roll floor for scraper alleys. Magellan 16 is intended for cleaning robots. Magellan P-Type is made to slatted-floor geometry, while Magellan 16 S-Type combines supported walking areas with open drainage.

Delta Diam 16 is a continuous 16 mm diamond-tread floor with double textile reinforcement. Panama is also adapted to slatted floors. The reversible Jovéa tile, 1.15 × 0.75 m and 22 mm thick, suits parlours, waiting areas and irregular zones. Every model requires checks of the base, joints, slopes and cleaning-equipment path.

Passive mattresses: Primistar, Elista and Louisiane

Primistar Ultimate targets heifers, young stock and smaller animals. Elista Ultimate is 40 mm thick with 300 kg/m³ latex. Louisiane Ultimate is a denser 40 mm design with a 650 kg/m³ elastomer core.

This is not a simple best-to-worst ranking. Selection depends on animal size and group, cubicle dimensions, base, bedding and desired resilience. Opti+, Comfort+ and Ultimate XL change the build-up or useful length and must be specified with the cubicle layout.

Active systems: Aquastar, Aquatop and Aquaclim

Aquastar Ultimate combines a water chamber and latex layer: water redistributes body load while latex adds support. Aquatop renovates existing mats and mattresses, using one water chamber per cubicle beneath a continuous reinforced cover. The old base still requires inspection.

Aquaclim and AquaClim UP add water circulation beneath the bed to remove part of the heat load. This is relevant in Uzbekistan’s climate, but it is not a stand-alone “cow air conditioner”: the project needs hydraulic and heat-rejection calculations, ventilation, drinking water and a complete heat-stress strategy.

Cubicle accessories: Aquaboard, Atlas NG, Danube and Altea

Aquaboard is a soft water-filled brisket barrier adjustable to roughly 12–22 cm. Atlas NG is a rigid moulded locator measuring 1 × 0.23 × 0.15 m. Both help position the cow, but selection follows bed length and group behaviour.

Danube is an 18 mm roll mat with a studded underside. Altea is 24 mm thick and incorporates a 4% slope over the rear 40 cm for drainage. Neither mat nor barrier should be chosen separately from divider dimensions, neck-rail position and base slope.

Additional solutions: Zen’Eat and Dairy Scratchy

Zen’Eat combines a raised feeding step with flexible DiviZen dividers, separating feeding cows from scraper traffic and defining individual places.

Dairy Scratchy is a non-powered stationary scratcher: the lower 500 mm is smooth, with 32 mm flexible studs above. Scratching points should not narrow passages or create conflict near drinkers and gates.

How is a cow mattress different from alley flooring?+

A mattress supports a resting cow in a cubicle. Alley flooring is designed for movement, grip, drainage and cleaning equipment. They are not interchangeable.

Which floor suits a scraper robot?+

Magellan 16 is intended for this use, but robot model, turning radii, thresholds, slopes and cleaning routine must be checked first.

What should be used on slatted floors?+

Magellan P-Type and Panama are made to the slat geometry; Magellan 16 S-Type serves partly slatted layouts. Accurate measurement preserves drainage.

Latex mattress or waterbed?+

There is no universal answer. Animal group and size, cubicle geometry, resilience, maintenance and project budget all matter. LabLog compares Elista, Louisiane, Primistar and Aquastar from farm data.

Can Aquatop be installed over old mattresses?+
